knitted baby booties - crafting runs in the family

I should change the name of my blog to "handmade by Lili and mum". My mum is an amazing crafter, so she deserves a spot on the blog! She knits like the best, but there are so many other crafting techniques she's mastered over the years. Embroidery, quilting, cross stitching, crochet, hardanger, ... name it, she's done it. Lately, she's been making knitted baby booties, and I thought they were too cute not to share.

Yellow for easter and spring - with pink buttons ...
... or green ones!

Another pattern, another style!
Cute and delicate - sweet!

Saving best for last: not your ordinary strawberries! Aren't these the cutest? Imagine that on little feet ...
With beads ...

or embroidered. It's up to you!

Kringloopwinkel - thrift finds

Another possible new series of posts: my Kringloopwinkel finds. I love to go and check out what they have in store. It caters for my flea market needs - since there are no open-air flea markets during winter time ...

So, what did I find? The thrift store had a "retro day" two weeks ago, and usually, everything is sold and gone within the hour. Not in Leuven apparently, where I went this week: lots and lots of sewing finds!

1. First of all: lots of passementerie ribbon. I don't know what I'll do with it, but I couldn't let that pass. They're vintage, and I love it. Any ideas welcome off course!

Just look at the goodness. There were more, I'm thinking about going back and buy some more ...
Tassels!

2. Vintage fabrics. Love love loooove this blue flowery fabric, off course. It's sturdy cotton and I'm sure it will make a lovely dress. The orange was just too vintage not to buy. If I don't use it myself, I'm sure some other people will :-)

Maurice agrees: lovely fabric

And this is just the sewing stuff! Thanks for stopping by!

Summer wardrobe - stripe top

This might be the beginning of a new series: the garments I make/made for my summer wardrobe. Below, some pictures of the top I finally managed to finish. I even took it to my parents' place two weeks ago, in case I might have found the time (and the itch) to finish it. I didn't finish it there, but during sewing "class" Tuesday night. Finally something I can tick off my to-do list.
I must say I had quite some trouble attaching the border at the neckline; it kept curling up and it almost took the fun out of it. And I really like the stripey fabric, it's a beautiful jersey fabric, but to align those stripes ... It was a bit more difficult than I had expected: I thought I could just whip it together in a blast, but it just took a bit longer. I'm happy it's finished, and it looks nice. I bought the fabric at the local fabric shop in Leuven (Pauli) and might go get some more, so I can make this skirt - it's been on my to-do list for quite a while now ...

Finished!

Matching stripes!

I also hemmed this skirt - at last! Getting ready for summer ...

Pimp your fridge - with pixels!

When I saw this post, I immediately knew the paint chips I had would be put to good use. It's as easy as it's described in the blog post: cut squares out of your paint chips, put a little piece of magnetic tape (you can buy this at the Hema in Belgium) at the back of each piece and start creating! The possibilities are endless: I only had blue paint chips, but I'll sure get other colors now that I know what you can make out of them!

Boring fridge, before the pixel invasion!

The possibilities are endless!

All gone, start anew!

Hooked on necklaces!

Remember the blue necklaces from the previous post? I must admit I got pretty hooked on this easy technique ... because I made some more this week :-)

Following the geometric shapes trend

retro in red

retro in blue
It's really such an easy technique, with immediate results - I love it!

And I also made one more pair of earrings ...

Jewelry

It's been a while since my last jewelry post, so this is what I made lately :-)

Those first necklaces were made after I saw this post and they are so easy to make. It's a fun way to use up some of the larger beads you have, without ending up with a bulky necklace. I even like the one with the round beads better, I think it stays better in place. But they both look super and I'll be making more of these!

I don't think I blogged about this necklace yet. I was inspired by a Kate Spade necklace (picture below, I can't seem to find it back on the internet). I thought I could make something similar :-)
The original, by Kate Spade

And my own knock-off :-)
Detail of the beading
It was a lot of work though: adding every bead, one by one ... But in the end, I think it was worth it. Even though I made this some months ago, so I thought I'd add it here.

Below are some simple necklaces, always a fun touch to an outfit :-)

I love the two hues in those beads. Beautiful!

Two strands this time

Finally, some really cute stuff: I made a hanger out of this little item below - spring is in the air!

And I couldn't help myself: had to make those into earrings. Cute!

Saving some cuteness for last: aren't these just too cute?
I must say, I hesitated whether those would be a blogpost of their own. They're so great!

Oilcloth!

I already mentioned in an earlier post that I had bought a little Petit Pan oilcloth leftover at a local craft shop. This is what I made of it :-)
- 2 tissue holders (following this easy tutorial)
- 1 zippered boxy pouch (no lining)
- 1 zippered pen pouch, with lining

I must say I love this fabric. I still have a little bit left (approximately 20 cm wide by 50 cm long), any suggestions for something I could make? I was thinking a little wallet or cardholder, but I welcome every nice tutorial suggestion :-).
